How To Use Your Teabags As a Beauty Treatment

tea bags on eyes

Here at BRUU we have a love-hate relationship with teabags. We hate them and they love us. However, while we will forever say they will never compare to the flavour of loose leaf tea, there are other uses for tea bags in the realm of health and beauty.  We have been using tea bags the wrong way this whole time, they're being marketed the wrong way!

Some evidence has suggested that using cold and warm compresses on your eyes has amazing benefits and tea bags are the perfect size to use as an eye compress.

Benefits of using tea bags on your eyes

Create a cold tea bag compress by wetting them and leaving in the fridge for a few hours. The cold compress will;

    1. Reduce dark circles under the eyes.
    2. Shrink bags under your eyes.
    3. Relieve pink eye.
    4. Soothe red eyes.
    5. Reduce puffiness.
    6. Ease minor eye injuries.

Alternatively, you can heat up your tea bags with hot water and put them on your eyes, once at the right temperature and this hot compress will help by;

    1. Reducing blepharitis.
    2. Draining a stye.
    3. Treating a chalazion.
    4. Relieving dry eyes.
    5. Offering a relaxing experience.

How do you use tea bags on your eyes?

Well, you will need two tea bags - one for each eye. If you are going to have cold tea bags make a BRUU and then squeeze the excess water out and put it in a fridge to cool. If hot, heat the bag with hot water and allow to cool to room temperature so you do not burn your delicate eyelids.

How long should you leave them on?

We would recommend placing them on your eyes for 10-20 minutes to get the full benefits.

Tea types to use on your eyes

Different types of tea will have different effects on your eyes. Black, green, and white teas have antioxidants and caffeine that may help with some eye conditions, whereas herbal teas may soothe eye irritation and inflammation.

Black tea and green tea contain polyphenols, caffeine, and certain minerals. Some of these compounds may have protective or disease-preventing properties. People have traditionally used chamomile tea to relieve eye infections, blocked tear ducts, and conjunctivitis.

So next time you reach for a cup of tea, stick to loose tea and use your old tea bags for improving the health of your eyes.
